Write Beyond

The idea behind Write Beyond is to create a space where writing can be free from rules, limits, and fear.

It was inspired by the many thoughtful conversations I have had with friends and colleagues about Myanmar. So many brilliant ideas about the country’s complex realities, social changes, and everyday struggles are spoken but never written down. Academic platforms often have strict requirements, while social media can feel unsafe or fleeting. I wanted to build a space that feels different — a space which is simple, open, and safe.

At its core, Write Beyond is a place for Myanmar scholars, students, and anyone who cares about Myanmar to share their thoughts in their own way. You don’t need to be a political analyst or hold a high level degree to have something valuable to say. As someone who was born, raised, or connected to Myanmar, your voice matters.

The goal here is simple: to write beyond fear, beyond expectations, and beyond self-doubt. In doing so, we can build a space together where our stories and opinions can live, be heard, and be remembered.

Here, there are no limits — no word counts, no language restrictions, no fixed formats. You can re-post your reflections from social media, share something new, or simply write down one piece of an idea in your own words. If you want to stay anonymous, you can use a pseudonym. What matters is to write it your way.

Write Beyond is an informal space, but I hope it becomes a starting point for Myanmar students and scholars to write and share their thoughts. When you learn to express your thoughts and experiences here, you can carry that confidence into more formal platforms like academic opinion pieces, research articles, or other forms of writing that reach wider audiences.
